Will installing K-Lite override CCCP codecs?

I'm looking into encoding in X265, but WMP won't play X265 files. I've read that the K-Lite codec will allow it. I currently play x264 files using the CCCP codec pack, which works very well. I'm concerned that installing the K-Lite will delete, or make un-usable the CCCP codecs. Does anyone know if K-Lite and CCCP can co-exists on the same PC(Win 7)?

One codec pack is bad enough, but you are going for 2
Odds are that you will develop issues

I doubt they will easily co-exist.

But why not just use KL for ONLY the X265 codec?
You don't have to load in all the codecs for the KL pack, doing so almost guarantees a conflict.

And JMO, but WMP was never a very good player.

For 32-bit decoding of H.265 video: use the Strongene Lentoid Decoder.

For 64-bit decoding of H.265 video: use LAV Video.

Cyberlink's "PDVD Generic" Video Decoder is another good alternative, IMHO.

Windows Media Player sucks anyway, so you'd better not use it at all.

Doesn't cccp install ffdshow? Doesn't ffdshow include h.265 decoders? Just enable them for DirectShow and VFW.

Latest ffdshow is v.4533, and nope, it cannot decode HEVC.

I didn't realize ffdshow hasn't been updated for 2 years!

CCCP has switched from ffdshow to LAV long ago and already includes HEVC decoding. Also has a 64 bit version now.

I don't know whether CCCP works in WMP by default. Try (re-)installing latest CCCP and loading defaults. If it still doesn't work it might require https://www.videohelp.com/software/Preferred-Filter-Tweaker for it to be used in WMP.

Just use LAV and get rid of the codec packs

Use MPC-HC or MPC-BE or Potplayer or SMPlayer or VLC instead of WMP and you won't need additional codecs.
They all come with the required decodrs "built in" so they don't need "system" codecs installed. MPC-HC has a built in version of LAV Filters doing the decoding.

I am a bit confused. I have CCCP installed and I use PotPlayer for playing media files and I don't use WMP for anything.

I use MediaPlayerClassic when any media files fails to play and it works. It came with CCCP.

Shall I uninstall CCCP?

Yes, It is old and outdated
Since you have potplayer, you may find out that you won't need CCCP anymore
