The changelog for ffmbc on VH says that it has been updated. But the various links don't seem to reflect that fact. IDK. If it is not vaporware, I am very eager to get my hands on a build. Does anyone know where to get one, or would I have to compile it myself—assuming I can even get a hold of the sourcecode?

The source-code of ffmbc is in the URL below:
https://github.com/bcoudurier/FFmbc
And you cannot use GCC 5 or higher:

Thanks. Should I assume that compiling ffmbc on my own is fairly straightforward? I am a total newb when it comes to this.

First of all, you must build a minimal "dependency set" (x264, LAME, zlib, xvid).
Later, you must tell the compiler to use that minimal "dependency set".
