I'm trying to convert this M4V file into an AVI file in VirtualDub but whenever I drag in the file I get "Missing Codec (AVC1)"
Same problem occurs when I drag in a MP4 or WMV file

I have the QuickTime plugin and WMV plugin.
    I also downloaded ffdshow

Anyone have a solution to this problem?

    Thank you!

  2. I recommend installing ffdshow and enabling the H.264/AVC decoder.

Enable H.264 decoding in the VfW interface, not in the Directshow one.

    I don't have DirectShow
and I did enable the H.264 in the decoding section of the VFW configuration

Very unlikely that your computer doesn't have an essential part of the operating system itself

As a last resort, install the x264 VfW codec. And pray that the operating system isn't broken.

  7. Note that if you are using 64 bit VirtualDub you need 64 bit ffdshow. If you are using 32 bit VirtualDub you need 32 bit ffdshow.

Just installed x264 VfW and it now works for M4V and MP4 but it doesn't work for WMV files
    what might be wrong?

Opening WMV files in VirtualDub requires:

    a) the WMV input plugin, plus

    b) WMV-decoding enabled in ffdshow's VfW interface

  11. Shekh's Vdub FilterMod opens virtually anything - it comes with an FFmpeg-based input plugin.

It looks like you've solved your problem with x264vfw. But also consider that some source plugins for VirtualDub will require DirectShow decoders. So try enabling the ffdshow's DirectShow h.264 decoder too.
