convert using how evver you what
but you need to edit the commercials first using either a lossless format
or
an editing tool with smart rendering, where only the frames affected by the cuts are recoded, the rest are copied
its going to be a manual operation no matter which way you choose
i use VideoRedo, for editing my recorded TV broadcasts
there are other editors with the same abilities, some might be even more advanced -
Is there a get started guide VideoRedo for editing? I tried a few things but got nowhere. There's a picture and some thumbnails..but I can't select a piece to cut out. There's a pop up that says mark the beginning/end of a selection but it doesn't seem to do anything. Nor can I move the thumbnails along.... I can get the main picture starting and stopping by clicking on it - but that's about it!

Greetings to a fellow kiwi.
Just out of interest, how are you getting the recordings off the Panasonic recorder?
I have one as well, which s networked. But the only way I have been able to get material off it is by burning and ripping discs. -
open DVD title
quick fix save stream, as a TS file. PS file, or MPEG file
then open the saved file for editing
that is fairly simple, even if it involves more steps
you can't actually save back to disc or directly edit the disc
although you should be able to create edit markers and save as a project file to be exceuted
doing the quick fix stream fix save, removes glitches and timing errors in the recording and gives you a file on the PC to work with -
Thanks for the tip with the video editor, I've had a few OS problems and haven't been able to get back to it yet.
Chopmeister, this may help - I had the same problem for ages, then discovered if I turned OFF DLNA Conversion in Network settings (on the Panasonic)
then the Windows 10 folder (mine is \DMR-XW440\HDD\) permits copying just like any other folder. I couldn't copy TO the Panasonic though ! -
johnmeyer and thewizard, thanks for the tips. I didn't realise the 'cut' didn't happen immediately, I see now you'd do then all first, then save.
I'm just doing my first test. Have also found the Help/getting started files etc.
Do you know how long the trial lasts for? I am tempted to buy it but it's pretty expensive with our exchange rate (as chopmeister will know!)
