  1. I've been around VCDs for awhile now. I know I have not been able to read DVDs with my CDRW. But my friend says he can read it with his Plextor CDRW. Me, being highly skeptical, said "so can I!". Well, I've come to believe, after scouring the web, that he was lying. But are there such CDRWs that can read DVDs? I would save me alot of money, putting them into SVCDS or miniDVDs.

  2. yup. only certain cdrw are made combined with dvdrom.
i think RICOH ever manufactured one 121032 cdrw with dvdrom builtin.
only this kinda combo-drive will be able to read dvd.

  3. LG makes one they sell at walmart for 109.99 Uses roxio and power dvd. A normal CDRW drive cant read a DVD. A DVD/CDRW drive can,it has to explicitly say it can handle it.

As for SVCDs, they can be read on cdroms. Not just DVDs. A SVCD used a regular disc, just its video is different.

especially laptop users will be offered CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drives to save space and since many laptop's only have one internal bay.
