  1. I asked this elsewhere but never got an answer, and I searched this site but answered seemed quite old.

I have been looking to capture DD+/EAC3 audio ideally with the video at the same time. But I can't find an easy way.

I can't see any HDMI capture card or device that does DD+/EAC3 ( I can do PCM). Is there one?

I have thought of using an HDMI audio de-embedder and capture the analogue but I can't see one that definitely does DD+/EAC3 at a reasonable price.

I have even considered, looking at devices that turn speaker level outputs back to line levels and use my amp to decode. But that seems all pretty messy.

Or a device that can turn DD+/EAC3 to something that I can capture plain DD or LPCM, but can't see a way of doing this.

    Anyone managed this easily?

    No card supports it.

In the case of AC3, apparently some Blackmagic cards can be tricked into recording the bitstream as PCM and then that can be interpreted back into an AC3 file using BeSplit. Maybe they could also be tricked into capturing an EAC3 bitstream, but there is no software to turn that into an EAC3 file.

  3. It is purely software limitation - your capture card must return to your HDMI source information about own capabilities (supported video and audio) - this is done trough EDID (E-EDID) - as in most if not all HDMI capture solution EDID is software generated then you may try to request from vendor such functionality - alternatively you may think about HDMI to S/PDIF converter - some devices (TV's, AV receivers) are capable to redirect HDMI audio to external S/PDIF.
Technically it is not a problem...

  4. Can you suggest a standalone HDMI to S/PDIF box that does DD+? I've never seen one that can do this (at a reasonable cost).

$220 seems reasonable considering how esoteric this is.

Note that the SPDIF output will be converted, not the original DD+ bitstream.

  6. Sadly researching this AT-HD570 box, it doesn't seem to do DD+.
