Whats a good universal remote for DVD Recorders ?

I have the Toshiba RD-XS34 and D-R4 units but need new remotes for them.

I tried searching ebay for the D-R4 but they were to expansive, and there were no listings for the XS34 unit.

Also, I just picked up a Phillips model SRP4004/27 universal remote (was $10) and tried it with the D-R4 but all it does in display a "DR-1" text on the LCD and then goes back to the clock display and the unit does not turn on, none of the remote's function keys do anything but turn on the "DR-1" message for a moment and back to the clock display. It seems to turn on but doesn't. Right now, when I power on the D-R4 it is stuck in the main menu where it wants to set up the language and other things. You can see the picture/video playing behind it but I can't do anything else.

Any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

    One possibility from Amazon:
    https://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-SE-R0117-Remote-Control-Model/dp/B00ZSLS5KS/ref=sr_1_fk...sal+dvr+remote

One from Newegg is cheap, but ships from China, so delay. It has some buttons that 'may' be compatible with DVRs.

Most remotes that advertise Toshiba compatibility are for TV sets.

And some of the Logitech Harmony universal remotes may work, but they can be expensive.
