  1. Hi

I'm experiencing problems with my CD-R.

I'm using Nero 5.5.7.2 to burn some files, mostly Div-X but also VCD. The files are almost 700 MB, so the CD is crammed to the limit (no overburning, just regular 700 MB CD-R's)

It writes just fine. The only message I get in the beginning (when I try regular-file burning) is that there is no room for multisession and that Nero has to Finalize the CD. I say Yes to this.

The strange thing is, that when Nero's done there is nothing on the CD. At least nothing my DVD Player or my CD-drive in the comp can read. When I ask for disc info in Nero it says Empty Medium, 4 MB free!

I haven't got a clue as to what's wrong except my wallet being emptied to no avail.

    Please help!

  2. Are you using, PNY cdrs? I had a pile of them and a few of them said burning successful but then I tried to read the disc and found it was totally empty!

And if not,I know this will sound stupid but, did you burn or just use simulation? Sim, will take just as long and will give you a message at the end of it just like burning. I know this probably isnt the case, I just figured it might help.

  4. PNY is a cheapo brand of CDR. They are well known for causing tons of errors. I just thought that you might be using them.

  5. Which Writer do you have?
I've got the HP Surestore 8100 and he can only burn up to 78 Minutes/30 Seconds. If I try to burn more, he only simulates it, then my System crashes. The CD-R remains untouched. See also

  6. That's very interesting. I have, in fact, got a HP CD-writer 8100 plus. I'm not sure whether the information above applies to this drive or if it's only the "surestore" version.

But tihs could very well explain my problems. And that really sucks, because many many files on the web are 80 mins.....

Oh well, anyway... thanks for the reply.

I have been copying vcds on my Nero 5, and although the computer reads the medium and there is something on them (cd-r), the dvd player will not play them. And I know for sure that my dvd player supports vcd. Also, some of the disks play and some don't. Does it have anything to do with encoding (i am a serious beginner!)? I am using up a lot of cds and burning nothing but money!

    Help,

  9. raunso: I ALREADY HAD THAT problem with my old HP 8100 - UPDATE FIRMWARE and ALL PROBLEMS are solved!

    TIP:
    http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/

I think it was there where I found firmware for it.

    TIP2:
HP 8100 IS THE SAME PRODUCT that a SONY is. Find A SONY 24x4x2x model and you´ll find HP8100. I USED SONY´s firmware to my HP8100 and I NEVER HAD ANY MORE problems. 8)

  10. I have almost the same problem when I burn a SVCD that's about 79 min. Nero hangs at the end and I get an empty cd-r as a result. I've tried all sorts of options like DAO and finalize, also other programs like cdrwin and fireburner. I've tried to find new firmware for my writer, a HP CD-Writer Plus 7570i, without success. If you have an idea please post caus this is a real pain in the ass.
