  1. Sometimes they will only show volume control, play+pause, ect. and no resolution option. (*even though its possible*).

Is there anyway to adjust various videos from random websites when this control is not showing up? is there a command or something?

By the way: (sometimes) Using my download manager (running it live) when I open an example video link, shows me the "download in __ quality options" or some mb file size. So, does this prove that the particular video is infact, an HD upload that is currently playing in a lower quality setting?

  2. There is no general rules concerning that.

First, those videos with different quality must be generated and stored on server. They must exist.
Second, embedded website player (not Youtube which generates that and operates automatically) must provide some interface where it can be changed. Using Javascript (javascript is not java btw.) that communicates with player's API or using HTML5 script. That might be generated or be selected by website creating tool (like WordPress) if supporting particular player (have not explored that).

So what the highest quality is on particular website, server cannot be said with 100% certainty. You just have to know it from previous experiences. (resolutions, bitrates). People tend to name those files with certain pattern , for example Egypt_LQ.mp4 or Egypt_HQ.mp4. But of course if those files are generated and named by software (WordPress type of software or custom software), names might be gibberish, somehow hidden, just bunch of characters with pattern that is not obvious or at least not obvious at first. If you know the pattern you just guess the name and you might upload it.

But I was always under impression that video web downloaders just can find all possible variants for video. But perhaps only if video links are included in scripts, finding those links from website script, never explored that area though. So if they are not included, those links, even if those files physically exist, you might not find them, or finding them just guessing their names. Also web providers might be changing that on the go. Being afraid of reaching particular monthly bandwith to just temporarily disabling high quality videos, not deleting them though, etc.

Someone might correct this, or perhaps if you mention what website you are talking about, you get just more decisive answer.

Thanks greatly, for the very in-depth answer.
