  1. i have a dvd i am ripping and i noticed that TDecimate(Mode=1) causes chopping in the frame rate
when i leave it at with only "TFM()" it runs smoothly (at 29,970 fps versus choppy 23.970)

why is that? and how should i know which one to use? (dvd is anime)
also is the "AutoEncode" is an "ok" way to get the final file?
i just insert the AVS file at the top and the ac3 auto file at the bottom, clck auto encode and choose target size something like - 350 Mb for the ~20 anime video
i get a constant frame rate and constant bit rate.
    is this the right way?

Maybe because that particular DVD is 29.97 fps not 23.976 fps with pulldown.

Examine at the video and note the pulldown pattern, whether it has blended fields, etc.

Anime probably isn't 29.97 fps natively (although sometimes titles are be overlaid at 29.97 fps). You need to figure out exactly what you have and treat it accordingly.

how do i examine the "pulldown pattern" and check if there are blended fields?
simply what is the process i need to do in order to know if a should encode the dvd into 24 fps or to 29

Bob() or SeparateFields() in AviSynth. Or use the Bob Doubler filter in VirtualDub.

There are many threads here about pulldown patterns, blended fields/frames, and how to treat them to get the original progressive frames. Just search this site.

  5. And if you can't figure it out for yourself, please post a sample from the DVD. We shouldn't have to guess what you have. You don't just blindly begin filtering it before studying it to learn how best to treat it.
