I have bought Malaysian VCDs and would like to rip them in Windows 10 without losing any video quality. They contain 2 audio languages (stereo; left = one language, right = another language), when ripped I would like to be able to just open the file in VLC and be able to select the language just like any modern dual-audio release. What is the best way to do all this?

  2. You can probably just drag and drop as I doubt they have any copyright protection. If they do, I used to use VCDEasy to put VCDs on the hard drive. I have no idea if it works in Win8.

You won't be able to "select" an audio.

It's impossible to make it that way?

How do I make a MPEG-1 file of it like .mpg or whatever is the standard for MPEG-1 so that I can put it on my phone to play in VLC without losing quality?

  6. That's not what you originally asked. But VCDEasy can also convert the DAT files to MPG. No reencoding, no loss of quality. Mpg2Cut2 can do that as well - take multiple DAT files as input, join them and spit out an MPG file.

You can select the audio channel in VLC with Audio -> Audio Channels -> Left or Right.

And since VLC can play VCD DAT files directly all you need to do is drag/drop the DAT from your VCD drive to wherever you want to copy it.

I get the following error on a clean Windows XP 32-bit SP3 installation (W10 doesn't work at all apperently):

Then I'd go with mpg2Cut2 instead. Open the .dat file(s) in there then save as a straight mpeg1 file. I'd tell you how but I use MPEG-VCR.....same thing only different.
The 30 day free trial is supposed to be fully functional.
