Not familiar with dedicated audio ripping but I'm attempting via long distance to provide a family member with a super simple CD to MP3 ripping option. This means no hand-holding to aid in setup. I'm hoping to find one similar to the ease of the many one-click DVD/BRD rippers. Their interest is to transfer to a tablet (Kindle Fire).

Any insight into an integrated or portable minimal switch option would be greatly appreciated.

    **EDIT** -- Forgot to mention..."Windows 7".

    Thanks rbivi11572!

Ahh, I've been using ZoomPlayer for so long hadn't even considered WMP adding that feature. Being an MS product it should be simple enough with minimal bells-n-whistles. Will take a look at it.

Curious, do CDs have copy protection of any kind? I'd expect a MS product would balk at that but it doesn't sound like it has been an issue for you.

Easy Audio Copy is not free, but it may be an interesting alternative giving it's extraction accouracy due to the use of Exact Audio Copy's extraction routines.

Never had any issue ripping any audio CD with Windows Media Player. It's not a hidden feature.

Of course we are talking of Win7 and I last used it under XP. Maybe the facility is no longer there.

    Thanks again for the replies!

I took a quick look at WMP giving it a whirl on one of my CDs. Couldn't be any simpler. Just two switches (choosing MP3 + setting audio bitrate) and rip is completed in under 2 minutes. They should have no problem using WMP.

Try CDex. It's simple and free and very fast.
I use it to convert directly the whole CD disk to MP3 for my car music player in one click.

WMP on Win7 can rip CDs like XP did. To access the menu it depends which screen you are on. If you are on the playlist screen then you need to right click on the menu bar a bit to the right of "all music" then mouse-over "tools" and select "options". On the next screen you'll see the tab "Rip Music". There you can select the save path, the file name including details you want to have in the name also the format from the drop-down list (mp3, wav etc..), the quality using a slider (affects size) etc.. If you are in the "Now Playing" view then right click on the main player window and select "More options..." and the "Rip Music" tab will be on the next screen. You may also want to look at the "privacy tab" there is an option which will let the player download file info from the net.
There's not much to do but then I can't do much anyway.
