Convert mkv to avi/or mp4 with the least quality loss?

I have some mkv videos and i want to convert them in to avi because its easier to burn in/hardcode subtitles but a conversion means that theres quality loss.
What program do u suggest me to use to covert my videos with the least quality loss?

Where did you get that idea?

But hardcoding subtitles require a re-encoding. You could use this or tell your final goal.

sorry i dont know much i just think there are many programs to do that in avi videos instead of vidcoder which was also causing me a problem using and reading Greek subtitles. But anyway, i will give it a new try and tell u

What format is your subtitles? .srt? If so make sure to use UTF-8 encoding.

yeah its .srt and yes i used utf8 during encoding (i tried today)
but the greek subs cant be showed even after choosing the language from the list.
But the dots in the end of the sentences and the numbers(if there are any) are being displayed normally...

yeah im hardcoding.
im reffering about the list in vidcoder when u choose subs, language and type.
i choose greek and utf8 and still no results. but the numbers, commas, dots and the rest symbols are being displayed..!
example:
Breaking Bad s01e04 720p BRrip - Chapter 1.mp4

This is not UTF-8 but ANSI encoded.

If it's readable to you in Notepad save it with UTF-8 encoding

okay so i must choose ansi in vidcoder or go in srt and save as utf8? or what?
edit: its readable to me, no symbols like ur screenshots.

yeah bro that worked! I saved the file and now the subs are embed and readable. I just want to have embedded subs and my dvd-player (on tv) to be able to read them as well. so vidcoder can do that job, right?

Vidcoder can hardcode the subtitles to a MP4/MKV file with different video codecs.
