Need A Decent DVD Player With Auto Aspect Ratio...

I had a Pioneer DV-420V-K and one of the things I loved was that it automatically changed the aspect ratio on my TV when going from DVD widescreen movies to DVDs of tv shows and older films that were fullscreen. But sadly it has a problem with DVD-Rs and would frequently choke on them and freeze up.

Looking for an affordable (less than $100) player that can handle DVD-Rs without freezing up. The Pioneer also would switch from my DVR input to the DVD input whenever I loaded a disc and that was also a nice feature. I thought it was something every DVD player with a HDMI connection would do, but I learned that is not the case.

Also is there a specific term for auto aspect ratio control that I can look for when shopping for DVD players?

“HDMI-CEC”, short for HDMI Consumer Electronics Control, is the feature that switches the TV to the correct HDMI port automatically. It has to be enabled on both the TV and the player. Most brands have their own term for “HDMI-CEC” .
