  1. There's ezcap.tv and ezcap.com. The .com site has this device http://www.ezcap.com/article_read_228.html which has the EXACT same case (except for slightly different labling on the case) as this device http://www.ezcap.tv/usb-video-capture/ezcap116-capture-card which is being sold by the .tv website (rather than the .com website). I assume one of these is a knockoff of the other, but I don't know which is the original, and which is the bootleg/counterfeit version. I want to make sure I buy only the real one, and not the fake one.

  2. http://www.ezcap.tv/usb-video-capture/ezcap116-capture-card is the real one. I bought an ezcap116 directly from them recently. Works fine.

Looking at the .com site that appears to be a manufacturer - you can not actually buy direct from there unless you are a trader.

Whether the products they make are the genuine ones its hard to tell but,as stated, ezcap.tv has good reputation so that is the place to go.

It took me about a 3 minutes of reading about all of the bootleg knock-offs of EZCap to go to the store and pick up my Hauppauge USB|Live2.

  7. After trying repeatedly to buy from ezcap.tv website and each time saying that they don't ship to the USA, I gave up and tried to buy from ebay. To make sure I wasn't getting a fake I checked the picture on the Ebay auction, and also the picture of the device on the official website. I compared every detail on each image of the device, down to the font used to write the name of the device on the case, and making sure that there were no more, and no fewer, words or other graphics on the case of the device in the Ebay auction than in the one from the official website, I determined that the one on ebay was official, albeit probably a used one, rather than new.

Typically, there will be SOMETHING different between a knockoff, and a real device, even if only a slight difference, but I saw no difference at all, so I assumed it was real. Confident that it was not a fake, I bought it. However, when it finally arrived, something looked a bit off, in the manual that came with it. It had very poorly written English, typical of manuals that were originally written in Chinese, and then poorly translated to English. Such poorly translated manuals are typical of those that come with knockoff products. Usually, a legitimate electronics company (even if they outsource their manufacturing to China, and even if the original manual is written in Chinese) will hire a professional translator, to make sure that the English written in the version of the manual is written in correct English. The manual that came with my product though, looks like it was a poorly translated one, like what you tend to get with Google Translate. Furthermore, the manual didn't list www.ezcap.tv as a site you could go to for product support. In fact, there was no support website listed at all. Usually, a manual will list the website you can go to for product support.

Suspicious that I may have purchased a really well-made fake product, I decided to try the driver that can be downloaded from www.ezcap.tv, rather than the one supplied on the CD that came with the product I'd purchased. This would tell me for sure, whether or not it was fake. Unfortunately, when I tested the official driver from www.ezcap.tv, it did not work, but when I tested the driver that came on the CD that shipped with the device, it did work. This confirms 100% that what I bought was FAKE! And it was a PERFECT fake too, at least cosmetically. The physical device has a case that is 100% IDENTICAL to that of the official one. Actually not 100% identical, because closer inspection shows that where it normally says "ezcap.tv" on the case, on the knockoff it said "ezcap". I somehow overlooked the fact that it was missing the ".tv" on the label when I first bought it. But that was the ONLY difference.

Remember what I said about them not shipping to the USA when ordering from the official website? Well today, after looking back at the official EzCap website, I noticed something I had overlooked before, a link that says USA Orders. This takes you to a page that lets has a link that takes you to their official Amazon.com store, where you can buy the official product. It also has a link that takes you to their official eBay store, but I think the person typo'd who typed the price when creating the product listing on Ebay, because it says it's over $100 on Ebay, but not on Amazon. Below is the OFFICIAL Amazon listing for buying an EzCap.

For convenience, here's the official Amazon.com listing for this device.
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003YGJLWU/

So I've learned 2 things here:
    1) Always read on the official website for official alternate ways to order the product, if the normal online ordering doesn't work.
    2) Some Chinese knockoffs are VERY close to the product they are a knockoff of, so always check item details VERY closely.

Of course, had you made it clear in your OP that you were in the states you could have been better advised here.

Even so, sorry to read that you were caught by a fake but if I had a choice of looking on fleabay or Amazon I know which one I would choose first.

There are fake EzCap 116s on Amazon too. If someone in the US wants to have support available from ezcap.tv, it is necessary to buy from the Amazon link provided at the ezcap.tv website.

I checked the ezcap.tv US link and just to compound the problem they also include an Ebay link (but I guess that is not the one the OP used).

But the problem there is that the sell price has clearly been incorrectly entered - who would pay $136.95 for a $36.95 product ?

But as u_q states, fakes are everywhere. They changed the name to ezcap to circumvent that problem but the fakers soon catch up.

I also looked at Amazon.com and there is a suspicious-looking one just a few bucks cheaper than the 'official' product.
