I use ArcSoft Showbiz to capture video. I've tried Hauppauge Capture but it doesn't work as well for me. The only place I get any mention of 5.1 audio is with Showbiz. When recording in AVCHD mode I see AC3 5.1 as the audio but it still records stereo. My video input is HDMI but I'm using optical audio input. It doesn't even show up as 5.1 when I used HDMI even when I uncheck the box that disables AC3 in HDMI. I'm running 32 bit Windows 7 on a fairly old machine. I hate to go with a new machine because a lot of my hardware isn't going to work if I switch over to 64 bit. Is there a way to record in 6 channel mode?

Maybe the MTS container you are using to record is the problem. I always used TS mode for recording, and was able to capture AC3 via HDMI, unless my cable box was set to provide LPCM. (The Colossus can only capture AC3 audio if it receives AC3 audio, and if it does receive AC3 audio, it captures the same number of channels received. If the Colossus receives LPCM audio, that is captured as 2 channel AAC.)
[Edit]I was using the Colossus in an AMD Athlon II x2 system running Windows 7 32-bit. Switching to Windows 7 64-bit shouldn't be necessary.Last edited by usually_quiet; 29th Jul 2016 at 11:59. Reason: typo

I've tried every option in the software to get 5.1. The only time Showbiz indicates it's receiving AC3 is when I have it set to record to TS. I've tried using HDMI also and in every configuration for that. Nothing I've done has worked and I've tried every possible option.

These are the settings I used, which I posted in another thread. I was capturing AC3 from my cable box, but if the box reset itself to use LPCM output after an update, the settings below allowed recording AAC audio instead.

I don't have a cable box anymore and the Colossus has not been installed in my PC for around a year now, so there is not much more I can do to help you. -
I appreciate the help but I've tried those settings and got the same results. My home theater picks up AC3 from my DVR. I know it puts out that format. And it shows up as AC3 in Showbiz but all my recordings turn out stereo.
