Hi, i'm having an issue with converting MPEG-2 .mpeg video into h.264 .mp4 with my video editor (Movavi).
My issue is, the audio goes gradually out of sync in the h.264 mp4 video. The audio is fine in the mpeg video.
The mpeg is interlaced 25FPS, the output mp4 is Progressive 25FPS.
These are the specs of the MPEG-2 videos:
and this is a typical mp4 output converting from the above format:Code:Format : MPEG-PS File size : 5.49 GiB Duration : 2h 6mn Overall bit rate mode : Variable Overall bit rate : 6 200 Kbps Writing library : ArcSoft MPEG-2 PAL Video ID : 224 (0xE0) Format : MPEG Video Format version : Version 2 Format profile : Main@Main Format settings, BVOP : Yes Format settings, Matrix : Custom Format settings, GOP : M=3, N=10 Duration : 2h 6mn Bit rate mode : Variable Bit rate : 5 852 Kbps Maximum bit rate : 9 000 Kbps Width : 720 pixels Height : 576 pixels Display aspect ratio : 4:3 Frame rate : 25.000 fps Standard : PAL Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Interlaced Scan order : Top Field First Compression mode : Lossy Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.564 Time code of first frame : 00:00:00:00 Time code source : Group of pictures header Stream size : 5.18 GiB (94%) Source encoded stream size : ArcSoft MPEG-2 PAL Writing library : ArcSoft MPEG-2 PAL Color primaries : BT.601 PAL Transfer characteristics : BT.470 System B, BT.470 System G Matrix coefficients : BT.601 Audio ID : 192 (0xC0) Format : MPEG Audio Format version : Version 1 Format profile : Layer 2 Duration : 2h 6mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 224 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Compression mode : Lossy Delay relative to video : 3ms Stream size : 203 MiB (4%)
Can anyone shed any light on what i'm doing wrong?Code:Format : MPEG-4 Format profile : Base Media Codec ID : isom File size : 328 MiB Duration : 25mn 55s Overall bit rate mode : Constant Overall bit rate : 1 772 Kbps Writing application : Lavf56.36.100 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : Main@L3.0 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 1 frame Format settings, GOP : M=1, N=25 Codec ID : avc1 Codec ID/Info : Advanced Video Coding Duration : 25mn 54s Duration_LastFrame : -19ms Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 578 Kbps Width : 640 pixels Height : 480 pixels Display aspect ratio : 4:3 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 25.000 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.205 Stream size : 292 MiB (89%) Audio ID : 2 Format : AAC Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec Format profile : LC Codec ID : 40 Duration : 25mn 55s Duration_LastFrame : -9ms Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 192 Kbps Channel(s) : 2 channels Channel positions : Front: L R Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 35.6 MiB (11%)

Does the audio get behind the video or ahead of the video? Is it originally a motion picture source?
-
It may not be relevant, but is there a particular reason for reducing the resolution from 720*576 to 640*480?
The source says it's 2hrs 6min
The output says it's 25min 55 sec
Are you sure this is the same video
Somethings are really off -
The mpeg2 videos are vhs rips of home videos, so no motion picture score there haha.
The resolution change is due to cropping, as the were a lot of black edges and fuzz to crop out, plus the aspect of the picture inside the black frames was 4:3 so 640*480 worked out best.
No it's not the same output as input in the file data's, its just a typical output where the settings used are the same.
I'm not sure if it behind or in front, I will have a look later and try and see. I will also do a like for like file data if that helps.
Thanks for the replies. -
Ok so here are the like for like file data's.
The audio is happening before the picture, so therefore the audio is behind the video, getting gradually worse as it goes on.

P.s. The running time is slightly different as i cut a bit of unneeded fuzz from the beginning and end of the recording.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
VSz -
when did you cut the fuzz ? aka 9 minutes
after completing the conversion or as part of the conversion process
i think maybe you need to try a different editor program -
Cutting it makes no difference to the audio sync, it does it if i cut or don't cut.
I cut it before conversion.
Also the editor works fine for any other files, just not these interlaced MPEG-2 mpegs.
