You will have to re-encode if you want to crop off some pixels.

Theoretically, it ought to be possible to crop using the MP4/AVC/HEVC conformance window cropping rectangles windowing feature, but I don't think a particular app dedicated to just cropping has been created yet.

  4. And some containers allow you to specify cropping values, MKV for example. But don't count on any players paying any attention to them.

  5. You should be able to crop the right edge and bottom with roozhou's modified ffmpeg build. The elementary stream VUI parameters are altered, so there is more likelihood that a player will pay attention to them. There is no way that I know of to crop the top and left without re-encoding, but in theory it should be possible

Can you guys test this out on some players? I set the crop as 16:24 (so 16 from the right, 24 from the bottom)

Works ok so far in mpchc, potplayer, ffplay, avisynth (lsmash, ffvideosource), but it's only a 10sec test . It plays correctly as 1904x1064 in those listed. Mediainfo reports it as such as well . I haven't tested any HW players

1.264 is the original elementary stream 1920x1080p24
    1.mp4 is 1.264 in mp4 container
out2.264 is 1.264 with the VUI parameters set to crop
    ffmpeg2.mp4 is out2.264 in mp4 container

It (ffmpeg2.mp4) worked (cropped) on a Raspberry Pi 3 running OSMC (KODI).

It didn't crop in an old version of SMPlayer on Windows 7.

My TV with built-in player works and I don't see why it wouldn't. Isn't this parameter used to crop 1088 encoded pixels to 1080 visible (displayed) pixels?
