Not sure exactly where this would go so I figure I'll put it here.

I recently got component cables for my PS3. I don't want to use HDMI because my TV has only one HDMI port and it's being used for the Wii U. The component hook up works great... For a certain amount of time. After a while it looks like one of the video channels went out and the color is all distorted. There's no loose connection, and the AV multiport works fine with lesser quality s video and composite cables.

The TV has 2 component inputs, and it happens on both. Currently I've moved the component cable to my ps2 and I'm leaving it on overnight to give it time to screw up if it will, isolating the cable itself as the problem. The ps2 doesn't run as high a resolution as the ps3 though, not sure if that could play into it.

Is there something I could be missing here?

  2. Maybe some corruption - not sure how you powering all this... describe in details how power is provided to all components (all devices and TV).
Side to this you can use or HDMI switch - cheap few $ ones should work correctly - i tested some of them - no problems.
Analog component have some limitations - chroma bandwidth is reduced by half and i assume PS3 is capable to provide better graphics quality than Wii.
You can always buy HDMI to component converter and hook HDMI source to analog input (perhaps HDMI to VGA will work if your TV is equipped with VGA input).
You may also try to set defaults on PS3 (start button on console and "hidden" menu) - perhaps some configuration is lost?
As you can see there is many different problems that may give such behavior - i hope that analogue video out is not corrupted).

Everything is connected to a single power strip. TV, PS3, Wii u, soundbar, and a cordless phone. I've tried resetting to defaults already. The problem with HDMI switches, is, for me, having another device to plug in, and have another remote to lose. I'd really rather use the component so I just have to switch it on the TV with the existing TV remote we already have.

-ed Hooked the component cable back up, saw another strange artifacting issue. The video seemed to be stuttering back and forth between two frames, with a sort of flashing green stripe going across the screen.

One important detail missing -are you able link this loss functionality with software upgrade on PS3? Perhaps it happen suddenly after forced upgrade? I will be not surprised if Sony began to copy protect somehow component and some TV may be not compatible - being on your side i would hook scope to YPbPr but i assume you have no scope...

Pretty sure it's version 4.80. It never didn't happen and then start happening... I just got the component cables recently, had the PS3 already for a while.
