    Hello,

Mkvtoolnix seems to work as described except the audio is out of sync in the final mkv file.

The mkvtoolnix troubleshooting guide mentions several symptoms/things to try for fixing problems, but does not mention audio sync.

Anyone experience this and found a solution?

The reason I'm hoping this works is that it's a much faster conversion than Handbrake and the quality appears to be perfect.

    Thanks.

Mkvtoonix doesn't "convert" anything. It simply takes the input file(s) and places it into an mkv container. It's (much) faster as it simply reads the input data, and writes it to a new file. Handbrake reads the data, performs a conversion, and then writes a new file.

You can verify this for yourself by opening the original file and the mkv file using a tool such as MediaInfo and compare the video/audio specs.

Usually the reason the audio goes out of sync when muxing and converting is that the files is damaged and the damaged portion is taken out producing that sync issue, mkvmerge will tell if there is errors in a file.

  4. If there's multiple vob files involved are you using the "add files as additional parts" function rather than appending them together in the usual way? Assuming MKVToolNix didn't automatically open them as a single file for you (I can't remember if it can).

If you're ripping DVDs, MakeMKV might be a better option.
