Well the simple answer is to check the manual of your tv to see what formats that supports.

Then do the same for the dvd player.

In short, many do not support Divx.

It may be quicker to convert the video and burn to a dvd using avstodvd and imgburn. Then you are practically guaranteed playback on the tv.

  3. Thanks so much for the quick answer.
Does AVStoDVD make more compatible videos than Nero Vision? Is it something similar?

Use AvsToDVD. It's the best at this.

However, at 720x486 it has a very unusual resolution and it was probably made by an idiot. Depending on if it's supposed to be played as 4:3 or 16:9, you may have to change some settings in AvsToDVD.

  5. Thank you very much for the advice.

I was the idiot using 720x486!!! I chose using it because I read about it in a forum. The original was 352x288. I changed it because I thought it was the responsible. What could be the best resolution (the settings) for 4:3?

AVStoDVD is able to take any input resolution and create the proper DVD, either 4:3 or 16:9.

Assuming the input file displays in the right aspect ratio (eg. objects are neither to "tall" nor to "wide"),
    the DVD should be OK.

The important thing when you first set it up, is to choose the correct PAL or NTSC setting in the preferences.

Hehe, funny. If you still have the original 352x288 video, I'd recommend using that to make the DVD. In fact, 352x288 is already an acceptable resolution for PAL DVD, although you may want to upscale it to 704x576 if you want a PAL DVD.

Even with the original being 352*288 being more close to PAL (possibly a VCD source), there is still the oddity of 29.97 fps which is NTSC.

Unless you are also responsible for that.

As stated, if you have the original, use that. Check the original for fps so make a PAL dvd for 25fps or a NTSC one for 29.97fps. But if your are in a PAL country, avstodvd can still make a PAL DVD from a NTSC source.

  9. Thanks so much to everybody.
AVStoDVD is really the best. I live in Europe so the standard is PAL. I set it up and everything went ok.

    Thanks again.
