  1. I have been having this problem a lot lately with TMPEGEnc. I convert an AVI file that is about 1:15-2 minutes long to mpg-1. It does not matter what the screen size is, because I have tried with multiple screen sizes. When I have encoded the avi to mpg-1, TMPEGEnc places 1 minute+ to the mpg. It's not even a minute of video.

For example, I encode a 1min, 30 sec AVI to MPG-1. When TMPEGEnc is done, it says that the mpg is 1min, 30sec. When I open the video up in a mpg player (usually Microsoft Media Player), it shows the mpg as 3 minutes. It plays the mpg just fine until it reaches the 1min, 31sec mark, then it just stops (or replays if the option is selected on the media player). I CAN go back and cut off the extra time with the MPG tools (Cut/Merge tool) in TMPEGEnc, but if I try to open the file as if I wanted to encode it again, it tells me something to the effect of the file has a floating point (I forget the exact error).

The extra time that is tacked on by TMPEGEnc also registers in the file size, such as (for example) the 1min, 30sec mpg would be 10MB (example only), but it's now 3 min and 20MB.

Has anyone had this problem, and is there a fix for it?

  2. I know that this is my own problem, but I think I solved it, so I want to pass on the resolution if anyone else gets it.

I uninstalled all of my Microsoft Media Player, which included the codecs. After I destroyed all of the files associated with MMP, I rebooted and reinstalled the player. The mpg files were still registering the wrong time and size, so I made them back into avi's using VirtualDub (for test purposes only), and then recoded them using TMPGEnc. The files came out fine. It seems that the codec that TMPGEnc was using from MMP was currupt (imagine that!).

sorry I just noticed this post.

the WMP will retain the length of the first play of any title.

you need to go in on the interface and remove the file history, but I only know the version I am using of WMP.

For example, if you drag a file - like from postings - called AVESQ1.DAT it will have a length, If you play another file of that same title that is longer, the play time for the version previously player will display.

I noticed this when testing binary postings, and some people just post the AVESEQ1.DAT from the VCD. I will get the first parts, and preview, and then get a couple more parts added on, and the video will just play til the actual end never minding that the counter and scroll have been exceeded.
