I'm trying to make an AVI file with the DIVX format but I'm having a bit of trouble. I'm able to get the Codec ID (DX50) correct, but the format is not. When viewing my converted file with MediaInfo it shows this under the General section:
Format/Info: Audio Video Interleave
But what I need is for it to show:
Format : DivX
Format/Info : Hack of AVI
Does anyone know how to do this? I'm using XviD 64 (from VirtualDub) as my writing library and DX50 as the Codec ID. Thanks!

Probably the DivX people themselves have abandoned their hacked AVI container... because they did switch to Matroska, IIRC.
It seems only a program named "fuse.exe" could do the trick.
Google has led me to nowhere, regarding the archive "Fuse02182005.zip".
UPDATE: use DivXMediaBuilder, https://www.videohelp.com/software/DivXMediaBuilder.
I have just remuxed a normal AVI containing DX50 video to a .divx file, and MediaInfo says "hack of AVI"

That worked and the video plays just fine. Thanks!
Glad to be of assistance
But it would be nice if some elder member of this forum could share their copy of fuse.exe
Just a side note:
If you are using DivX v7+ with HD resolutions and AVC (or even HEVC in the current v10) compression, a *.divx file might even be a special version of the MKV container instead...
