Hi. I was ripping dvd movies with DVDFAB and noticed that if I use AVIs they add black bars to the video, making them quite a bit smaller, at least for playback on the PS3. I was wondering what other ripping software is better for ripping dvds to AVI? I do prefer AVI format because It saves a lot of time with using AVIADDXSUBS, rather than hardcoding for an additional 15-40 minutes.

Can't you do any cropping in dvdfab?
Or do you want to make 2.25:1 videos into 16:9 fullscreen?
You can use old tools like AutoGK, Fairuse Wizard to make avi divx/xvids. Rip first the dvd to your hdd with dvdfab or use a background ripper like dvdfab passkey or anydvd. Then open the video_ts dvd folder in those apps.
Or maybe it's time to a get player that supports subs in mkv or mp4.....
