  1. Hi guys, hopefully someone can help me out here.

I have some video from which I would like to crop just a small portion. Video is taken with a cheap hobby camera that records in H.264 in a MOV container. If I load the video clip into vdub I can play it from the beginning without issue except the audio is not quite synced (starts fine but gradually gets out of sync). If I move the slider to some point in the video and play from that point, the video will be frozen on the frame where I left the slider but I can hear the audio play as normal. So what I've tried to do is just crop out the section I want and process it, ignoring what's on the screen, but the output is actually what's on the screen- just a single frame where the slider was while audio plays.

For what it's worth the video plays fine in Windows Media Player. I can stop and start at any point and the audio is always synced.

    Thanks in advance!

What plugin are you using to open the mov? Because it's not supported directly by virtualdub.

Or else try the old mpeg streamclip to cut out clips from mov, open mov, set start and stop, file->save.

Or avidemux might work. Open mov, set start and stop, format: mp4, save.

I use AVIDemux with MOV files from my small Mobius camera. Never got VD to work with them.
I also use the 64 bit version of AVIDemux as it seems to work better with my 64bit W7 OS.

I seem to be getting the same weird type of errors with AviDemux. I can play the video from the beginning, but I can't seek. If I move the slider then hit play, it goes back and plays from the last point it was playing in real time. I set the start and stop and tried to delete, it gave me an error "error seeking to 0ms".

I would think maybe the video file is just goofy, but like I said Windows Media Player handles it just fine.

Edit 2: The original file is in fact AVI, not MOV.

polyacanthus, were you able to solve your problem? I have the same problem.

I have tried both Avidemux and Virtualdub without success.
