  1. I sometimes edit the audio of an mp4/avi by opening the video with WavePad, making my changes to the audio, then saving a new mp3 file. Avidemux is then used to put the new audio on to the video but, very often, there's a burst of static at the start. I've no idea why that should be, it seems to depend on where you cut the video originally.

It was suggested to me that I save a wav file rather than an mp3 and let avidemux do the conversion to mp3. This plan works insofar as the 'static' problem doesn't arise but I now have another problem as shown in the attachments. Can anyone suggest why the volume is being lowered and how to prevent this? Thank you for your time.

mp4/avi? Do you mean divx/xvid or H264 ? NO need to be coy, the more details the better.

Why don't you use Virtualdub to add the new audio to the avi ?

  5. Make sure you don't have the audio filters set set change the volume. For example, make sure Gain Mode is set to None.

  6. H264 mainly. There may have been some divx/xvids along the way, I wasn't checking. I'll try VDub next time I have a rogue avi but they're in the minority, my files are mostly mp4.

    Yep, Gain is None.
