PotPlayer's menus only list webcams, analog PC TV tuners, digital PC TV tuners and SD analog capture devices as options. I have only used Pot Player for analog PC TV tuners, digital PC TV tuners and SD analog capture devices. However, I suspect that the chances of getting an HDMI capture device that uses software to encode to work with PotPlayer are not good. ...and an HDMI capture device that encodes using hardware won't work with PotPlayer because PotPlayer isn't designed to be able to access the encoder's output.

Which HDMI video capture card do you want to use? Your choices for capture software depend on the capture device. Some capture devices only work with the capture software provided with them and possibly GraphEdit, GraphStudio, and similar. For most capture software, recordings need to be be started manually and cannot be scheduled to start at a particular time within the software. Some capture software has a duration timer controlling the length of the recording, but many lack that feature, and instead require recordings to be stopped manually.
