Hello everyone, it's me again with another problem T.T

This time I've a 720p subtitle version of a movie and that movie in BluRay720. The subtitle goes off synch during reproduction of the movie so I can't use Subtitle Edit to adjust the timing of every line. I've also tried to use Subtitle Workshop to see if there were any differences between FPS and Input FPS but there aren't: both movie and subtitles have 23.976 FPS value. What can I do? That's the only subtitles I've found in my language and the only version of the movie I've found aswell.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you really much in advance!

Perhaps you could use Visual Sync.

Or if you know time for first and last subtitle (perhaps from one in sync) use Point sync.

And are you sure it's the same movie, ie one may have additional scenes etc.

Thank you, I will try all the possibilities and report!

  4. If it is the same cut of the film and it's a few seconds off at the end, it's probably a drop frame or 23.976/24fps issue and videobruger's suggestion should work. Here's a guide to using Visual Synch:

So I've tried Visual Synch and it didn't work, I've selected first 3 lines of sub and synchronized them to video aswell as last 3 (had to do a +1.9 secs to sync first lines and +11.5 for last ones), pressed Synch but subs still remain out of synch.

I could try to use Point Synch but what if the subs I'm taking times from has a different number of lines?

You don't select the first 3 lines. On the left you select one of the first subtitles and have it fit the video. On the right you select one of the last subtitles and have it fit the video. Then you press Sync.

Notice this is "Point Synch" not "Point sync via other subtitle ...". You select the first and last subtitles as sync points and enter (or paste) time codes. And it's very similar to Visual sync as you see the video.

And it is a misunderstanding if you believe the two subtitles when using "Point sync via other subtitle ..." needs to have the same numbers of lines. In your previous case you could sync say 10 lines in the english subtitles based on the timecodes from 8 lines in the thai subtitle. To have the same number of lines in two subtitles is mostly important when importing the time codes from one to the other - and even then you can sometimes get by with different numbers of lines.

Easiest way to fix subtitles that go out of sync like you described is to load the sub into subtitle edit and select synchronization/change frame rate and select 23.976 to 23.99 and save, it will shrink the timing by around 3 seconds,go to the end of the video and see how far the timing is off,if it's around 3 seconds adjust 23.976 to 23.99 or 23.976 to 23.953 depending if it's too soon or too late.

If the sub is off by more seconds then adjust frame rate such as 23.976 to 23.94 or 23.976 to 24,it's a bit of adjusting but it's far easier than adjusting single lines, just save the sub after each adjustment to see how close you are to matching.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.
