I have a problem with Any Video Converter. It used to perform with no problem. I hadn't used it for a while, and now I can't get it to convert to the proper aspect ratio.

Here is an example of a source file that I can't get to convert to the proper ration.

Here is the GSpot screenshot for the first conversion attempt. In AVC, 'Basic Settings/Video Size' was 720x480 (because the purpose of the converstion is to burn the files to DVD). "Video Options/Video Aspect" was 16/9. The resulting video was fairly close to 16/9, but was obviously "squashed" from top and bottom.

Here is the GSpot screeshot for a second conversion attempt using the same source file. This time in AVC, "Basic Settings/Video Size' was 720x480. "Video Options/Video Aspect" was set at "AUTO". Same result - again fairly close to 16/9 but obviously "squashed" from top and bottom.

I tried a third time with the AVC settings as follows: "Basic Settings/Video Size" was set at "Original". "Video Options/Video Aspect was set at "AUTO". AVC apparently went thru the whole conversion process and announced its conclusion. There was an apparent resulting file, with no abortion nor any error messages, but the file consisted of zero (0) bytes.

So. Hopefully there is enough info that someone can make a suggestion. I've pored over the settings in AVC. I've tried different combinations of Video Size and Video Aspect, but none result in a proper file. Perhaps someone can help.

I'm thinking that maybe the source files I've been downloading are somehow different from the files that I was finding some months back.

Failing any suggestion for this particular problem, are there any suggestions for a different or better (and hopefully also free) conversion app?

I would try AVStoDVD. It can convert directly to DVD or MPEG2 files. It's FREE.

    Thanks for the reply.

I did try AVS to DVD. I already had it installed, but it was also presenting problems. Then I downloaded the latest version, and for the files that I referenced in the screen shots, it worked. At least close enough for my purposes. Audio & video were out of sync on a couple of files, and that was pretty much fixed. And some other files with aspect ratio problems were also fixed.

But now I have a different problem. A couple of different files are taking FOREVER to convert. I have one converting as I write this post. I started it about10:30 am; it's now 9:30 pm and the progress bar is at 8%. At that rate it will take roughly 100 hours or roughly four days for an approximately 30 min file. I had stopped a previous attempt, but I think I'll leave this one alone and see it it completes or if it aborts. It seems to be progressing steadily, just very, very, very slowly.
