Very Simple Video Editor

I just need a video editor to crop out parts of video converted from old VHS tapes.

Most of the video editors, even the free ones, have an insane amount of options that I don't need.

I just downloaded XMedia Recode 3.3.1.8, and it doesn't even look close to the screenshot. All I see is a page to convert its format.

Following someone else's reply, I found Avidemux that seems to be much simpler and doing exactly what I want it to do.

Else there is Video to Video. Pure graphical, ie no nummerical values needed.

Drag the video on Video to Video.

Select Crop & Pan and hit the three dots.



Tick crop. Define the crop area on the left. See the result on the right.

I'll give that a shot as well.

It isn't the numbers that are the hassle, it's the interface to the process.

Somewhere in XMedia Recode, clicking on some mysterious combination of buttons, is probably the exact thing I'm looking for. But why bury it?

Even Avidemux took a little bit of learning. I finally figured out, you have to stop the video before you annotate the area of the tape that you want to crop out. But, once that's figured out, it's fairly intuitive.

I can see that Video to Video has a steep learning curve as well.

I experimented with it, and removed the parts I didn't want in my video (commercials), but, I couldn't figure out how to save the cropped version.

It just don't seem like such a simple task should be that hard to learn.

The problem you are having is that softwares have two philosophies, mark what you want to delete.....or mark what you want to keep. Once you figure out what the software wants you to "mark", it gets easier.

I just used Avidemux, and it was more intuitive (simpler) than Video to Video. I do want to give Video to Video one more shot though, because, with Avidemux, I could just save my video as an .avi file.

For my previous post about Video to Video it was for cropping not cutting.

If you use the commercial remover to remove parts press OK and select an output format. Often "Direct Stream Copy". Then "Convert

Avidemux is an editor.

But you wont find any editor that works perfect with all video.

There's no doubt that I need some more experience with all these products.

Ooph, videoburger. I can't believe I missed that with Avidemux. I just saved a rather boring piece of video for the wife, and don't want to have to view it one more time.

I read through your guide on how to cut things out of a video using XMedia Recode.

I set the Start Point and the End Point of a section of my video that I want to delete. Now, what do I click on to delete this section? I tried Edit, but it doesn't give me an option to delete.

What I'm looking for, is a way to cut out parts of a video that I don't want, not to cut out the sections of a video that I do want.

With Avidemux, I tried saving the file as mpeg-2 ps. But, Avidemux is giving me an error: "DVD: only 48 KHz audio accepted."
