I recently used ffdshow (by accident) and it defaults to MJPEG now. The resulting AVI file plays file, however, the colors look all garbled to me.

I understand about YUV to RGB conversion, but I have tried VirtualDub/Avisynth and cannot get it to look "normal."

This isn't my image, but the colors basically look like the colors shown here: http://www.ojodepez-fanzine.net/almacen/6gigs.png

Is there an easy way to get this to look right when I play back the video?

Looks like the video signal received some *noise* before being encoded

I don't think that's it... i tried and it didn't make a difference. it was ffdshow that caused the error during encoding. My thought is that it was ffdshow encoding it as MJPEG, but the color pallette is wrong... hence the image is sorta visible, but not normal RGB.

I could be completely wrong. If anyone has any ideas, I would be greatly appreciative.

  4. That looks something like what might happen if a high bitdepth video is decoded as 8 bit without actually converting it to 8 bit, although I'm not sure why anything like that would happen.
