    hit the update button
few hours later tried to use my drive to burn a disc, would not even see the media
    imgburn said no device available
neither burner built in or external would work
control panel device mgr, gave a code 19 error for both drives (windows cannot start this device)
system restore would not fix it,
i rebooted several times, did restore 3 times
    finally remembered the passkey update
uninstalled passkey , and went to recovery and did a "Refresh"
and the dvd drives came back

Now, now, don't be so hasty. He may have meant that Passkey made his computer go to the dogs.

Anything to do with device drivers registry changes / updates requires a system reboot ... not mentioned in users post.

I did this and it worked, a week later, the drive failed. Not related failure. Error code 19 can occur for several reasons. If it's the ATAPI in the registry, or the drive is failing. Try this first...
Had to do the following to my Windows 10 32 bit

    Create a registry subkey
Note To use this method, you must be logged on to Windows as an administrator. If you need help verifying that you are an administrator, go to http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin

Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration in case problems occur.

To create the registry subkey, follow these steps:

Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run box.
Type regedit in the Run box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow
In the navigation pane, locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\atapi
Right-click atapi, point to New, then click Key.
Type Controller0, and then press Enter.
Right-click Controller0, point to New, and then click DWORD(32-bit) Value .
Type EnumDevice1, and then press Enter.
    Right-click EnumDevice1, click Modify....
Type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Restart the computer.

Again, a week later it was the hardware that actually failed.
It's not important the problem be solved, only that the blame for the mistake is assigned correctly
