I have VideoReDo TVSuite. It will read *.dvr-ms, mp4, mpg, mpeg, rec, ts, tp, tivo, VOB, VRO, and wtv files.

I need to be able to edit a DVD movie that is copy-protected and edit out some scenes, language, etc. to make it more appropriate for kids.

Can you recommend a program to unprotect and rip to an easy format such as MPEG?

  2. Use DVD Fab (demo mode works fine) or DVD Decrypter (old but still works for most discs) to rip as a VIDEO_TS folder. Then use VOB2MPG to convert the VOB files to one big MPG file. Edit the MPG file and author a new disc.

Or use a background ripper like dvdfab passkey(the free version might work) or anydvd. Then can you use vob2mpg directly from the dvd or import dvd vobs directly in videoredo.

Or... you can leave the movie be and don't show it to the kids if you think it's unappropriate.

Be sure that if you're working with MPEG-2, and wish to edit and keep the format as such, especially if you want to put it back on DvD after, you should work with a dedicated MPEG editor. What I'm talking about is an editor that would take the MPEG streams, cut, join, crossfade, etc, and only reencode the few frames "at the seams" without touching the other parts. This would be faster, and save you tons of quality (since MPEG-2 is a lossy format).

I don't know of any good free editors that do this, but an excellent MPEG-dedicated editor is from Womble. Also is your VideoReDo, and TMPGEnc MPEG Smart Render. (But the latter two are more linear.)

If this is going to be a media file for kids, for their tablet etc..
Then Rip to mp4, edit with videoredo
If you want to make a new DVD
First Covert with vob To MPEG not mp4, and then edit with video redo
    Then create new DVD
