I received a video file that was ripped to a 1:1 aspect ratio. After using VLC to manually select aspect ratios during playback, 16:9 looks correct. I have used MKVToolNiz to create an MKV with a "forced" 16:9 ratio, but this plays back properly only in players that utilize the aspect ratio setting.

I know how to change the ratio in VirtualDub (it's simple enough), but I'd like to know how this can be done using Handbrake. The "snag" is that every set of instructions I've seen on how to do this refers to unchecking the "Keep Aspect Ratio" box - and I don't see one in PC version 10.0.6534!!!

  2. I only have the old version but until someone else comes along....

Anamorphic Custom. Set the width and height to whatever dimensions you like, the PAR width and height both 1, and set the display width the same as the width you're resizing to.
I'm not sure how Handbrake's settings for PAR and "display width" work, because they're not independent yet you can set them independently. That aside, the way I suggested should resize to square pixels at whatever size you select.
