Hi I have been converting some movie clips from .avi to DVD for a friend of holiday clips. I burnt them at 1x speed using ImgBurn the blank dvds are verbatim discs I used FreeMakeVC to convert the avi to dvd but they wont even load up on her dvd player she has a samsung model number BD-H8500M also a BD-H8900M a BD-D8200M and plus a BD-D8500M all samsung players but none worked wont even load up videos
so I redid them this time on DVD+R blanks same converter same burning program. she now says they work but now she cant pause fast forward or even rewind any this dont make a lot of sense i did check her players and it seems they are Blu ray ones, would this make any difference
also just like to say, i tried these on my portable dvd player, I have 2 as well and 1st lot was fine same with 2nd lot. i could load them ok. also on 2nd lot on DVD+R blanks I could pause fast forward and rewind them so its all a mystery to me

"Blu-ray" players also double as "DVD" players, so that won't make any difference. It's hypothetically technically possible for BD players to not support DVD, but so far NO players have been built that way. Of course, it's always possible that the red laser section is acting faulty, but not the blue laser (thus trouble for DVDs but not BDs). You could check this by using a known-good pressed DVD.
Whatever settings Freemake is using is probably not optimal for your material (though I doubt that it'll give you the option to tweak it).
Media type & manufacturer make a huge difference with consistency of quality playback, but just saying "verbatim" doesn't mean much anymore, since they put out both good and bad media. You'd have to specify the actual media code to have us help ensure you're using the right (good) kinds of blanks. +R or -R shouldn't matter much anymore.
Best guess: try a different encoder & authorer and/or different media.
I've never been impressed with Freemake, so this doesn't surprise me.

You might try AVS2DVD and I would continue to use ImgBurn.
I've burned a lot of DVDs, BD and CD with no problems with IB, all at max speed. But I use good media.
For BDs not as many converter choices, but I burn BD data discs with MKV video on them and my Samsung BD player has no problem reading them. -

Many people try to limit the video length to about 2 hours burned to a DVD in DVD format for good quality.
But that can vary a fair amount depending on the video itself.
Fast action usually needs more bitrate and less time on the disc and slow action less bitrate and more time.
But there are other factors also.
The speed of conversion to the DVD format is mostly caused by the speed of the computer and the format of the original file. -
