    Hello,
I am just wondering if this is only my problem (something specific to my setup because I was not able to find anything with google) or not. And if anybody knows any solution to this.

    My problem:
When playing H264 videos using MPC-HC with LAV filters and enabled DXVA2 hardware acceleration - graphic card (AMD Radeon R9 290X) will increase/max the GPU and memory clocks so the GPU fans will increase speed which means that PC will became loud.

    Details:
OS: Win10, 64bit. Not sure but I believe that Win7 behaved the same.
LAV Video Decoder: checked mainly with 0.66 (MPC-HC internal) and also latest 0.68 (64bit)
GPU: Radeon R9 290X (GV-R929XOC-4GD), using DVI output
GPU drivers: this is long term issue, tested almost any version, currently on latest 16.4.1 (beta). Tried to check/change all video settings in driver (like steady video etc.) but no difference observed. All driver video enhancements should be disabled.
DXVA2 native versus copy-back: with native mode the issue is much more visible, Samsung.Demo.Oceanic.Life.x264.1080p.40Mbps.mkv will make card to run at max GPU/MEM speed. With copy-back the GPU will run around 500MHz.

    Partial solutions:
    1) limit max GPU clock speeds for example via MSI Afterburner, video will still play fine even on lowest possible GPU frequencies
    2) enable GPU in processor (I have Intel i7-4770K) in BIOS and set LAV Video Decoder to Intel QuickSync instead of DXVA2 to have at least some HW acceleration. In such case GPU clocks (noise) will not increase.

I always replace noisy fans with a silent one. It could be a bit tricky for some graphics cards though...and you could be brick the card. I can't stand fan noise....

But can't you make some auto script that always limit the gpu clock when using mpc-hc? Or is it not enough?

I was just wondering if anybody can confirm or concur this bahviour. Replacing fans on card will still not fix the issue. It's just a workaround. If the card has really UVD then there should be no reasons for such behaviour.

    Any idea how exactly?
