Greetings ...
I have rounded up for safekeeping four DVD's, each with the Windows 7 installer program, and each with the ID
GSP1RMCHPXFRER_EN_DVD
I assume this allows installation (or re-installation) of Windows 7 in any version, although I intend to go with Win-7 Professional. Please confirm that this is so.
Also, I understand that a new wave of microprocessors is being marketed which will not be Windows-7 friendly. If I choose to buy a new desktop now (which would be a custom-built bare bones type), what type processors should I be looking for that are Windows-7 friendly ??

Support for windows 7 on skylake processors is yes however the newer chipsets are developed with windows 10 in mind ... will run slower

Haswell, Broadwell and Skylake (only partial support for Skylake) are the last Intel CPUs designed to work with Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Skylake will work with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, but Windows updates will be limited to security patches after July 17, 2018. http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2016/03/skylake-support-on-windows-7-and...ear-extension/
Later Intel processors will not have Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 chipset drivers available. That means The CPU could in theory run Window 7 or Windows 8.1 but important motherboard connections controlled by the chipset (SATA, USB, on-board video) would need to be addressed with add-on cards that have Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 drivers available.
Windows 10 will also be the only supported Windows OS for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820, 8996 and later processors, as well as AMD's Bristol Ridge, Zen and later processors.Last edited by usually_quiet; 16th Apr 2016 at 12:20. Reason: AMD Carrizo may support Windows 7 and 8.1 added link to article

Greetings ....
Just now discovered that I have already download and saved ISO's for both Windows -7 Home Premium (x17-58997 / GSP1RMCHPXFRER) and Professional (x17-59186 / GSP1RMCPRXFRER), and both include Service Pack 1. So, I'm covered.
Appreciate your info and advice.Last edited by Frank-0-Video; 16th Apr 2016 at 15:29.
