A friend and I are wanting to start a series of educational videos, and feel that having subtitles for the videos is a must.
Unfortunately, I am not very familiar with video editing (in fact, I had absolutely no experience until about two days ago). I am using VSDC.
I've read the FAQs on VSDC's homepage, and have watched most of the video tutorials on Youtube (of which there aren't many), but I haven't been able to find anything dealing specifically with adding subtitles.
Given what I have learned so far, I can, theoretically, add subtitles to my videos. However, I feel that my method for doing so is not the most efficient. My strategy as of now is to simply play my video and note the time of the audio, pause the video, add the text, continue the video, add the text, etc... until the end of the video.
I can't really think of a better way to do it. But the reason I say it's not the most efficient is because with VSDC, as far as I know, getting to the "stopping point" of one block of text and the "starting point" of another requires me to manually move through the video. When I "preview" the video, the "time tracker" (I don't know what to call it, but it's the point in time from which the video will begin playing) doesn't automatically follow where I stopped the preview of the video. So, I have to manually move it. If I video were an hour long, for instance, I feel like this moving and tuning in of the "time tracker" would add it to a lot of time.
If anyone has any advice/suggestions I would appreciate them.
Thanks,
Mr. Slippery
TLDR;
I use VSDC, and I would like some tips/advice on adding/editing subtitles

You could make the subtitles with an external software like Subtitle Edit. Then add the subtitle file(like a srt) and your video in a mp4 or mkv video container or in a flash/html5 video player or dvd/blu-ray. The user can then also turn off and on the subtitles.
