Rip but keep subtitles - when needed

I am using DVDShrink to rip DVD's and then Handbreak.

I can't seem to get subtitles to play, where needed, e.g:
Letters from Iwo Jima
Apocalypto
etc.

I have follow the instructions here

but this does nothing.

Any suggestions?

Are you importing the video_ts folder in handbrake?

And in handbrake under subtitles see if you can check the subtitle track and forced subtitles.
