  1. Hi, I am having a little trouble understanding what's the best solution currently for my requirements:

    * Wireless Video beaming from a windows 7 desktop PC (that has no built in Widi) to an HDMI flat screen TV 50 feet away.
    * Mainly for showing powerpoint presentations and mirroring the PC screen, but also has to play videos when needed (e.g. from inside the powerpoint presentation when it contains clips), youtube... HD quality.

So I understand what an old WiDi box does, we tried two of those with a widi enabled PC Atom Tablet (Asus T100 Z3740), but they are not very reliable, constant disconnects. From what I understand no one is making those HDMI Widi beamer type devices anymore (I can only find older ones). So I looked into chromecast and streamers. But those seem to be geared towards watching videos and TV channels. We need to show a mirrored PC screen and also video in good quality. I saw that the ChromeCast has an experimental screen mirror mode but its cited as "not the best for video"

so this probably means, if I put a powerpoint presentation with video on it, it will stutter. What, then?
Something like this? (dongle mini pc- or a version with Windows on it)

Will this handle a heavy powerpoint presentation with lots of audio and video?

I'm greatful for any help... thanks

If this is a permanent installation, to where you are ok with possible construction, a WIRED solution is MUCH better (quality and reliability-wise) for your needs.
Run with an HDbaseT extender set (Gefen makes some good ones) to the projector. Make sure it handles any EDID changes correctly. HDbaseT allows you to run Cat6 (or better) cable for LONG runs (up to something like 100meters, IIRC), instead of HDMI's much shorter cable length requirements.

A mini PC that connects to a TVs HDMI port might work. There is a Windows PowerPoint Viewer and an Android PowerPoint app which would allow you to use a mini PC stick to play PowerPoint presentations. However, there is also the problem of controlling the mini PC from 50 feet away.

The Windows/OS X compatible Gyration Air Mouse GO Plus is supposed to work from 100 feet away, but I don't know if there is a comparable product for Android with a range of over 50 feet.

[Edit]The other problem is storage. Mini PCs often have very little.

There is a review on the page below confirming Intel's BOXSTK1AW32SCR 2nd generation Compute Stick works for running PowerPoint presentations with video.

You could try a home plug if you do not want wires running all over if your router is in a different room say
