    I tried this, can't understand it. After entering points A and B I saved the video, it was nothing like where I marked, and sound was out of sync.

    Any others? I don't mind paying a reasonable amount for commercial software.

    How much lack of precision are you willing to accept? i.e. if you wish to cut from 12.40 to 22.10, how far can the obtained in and out points be?

  5. AviDemux in copy mode, like any other program that doesn't re-encode, only cuts on keyframes. Depending on the video, keyframes can be 10 or more seconds apart.

    I didn't realise it was that much, but I was only using it to cut 3 hours off the end of a 10 minute clip. I'll widen the A-B points.

    Once done, is it possible to identify the keyframes, then cut the material like this:

    Re-encoded: IN point ---> Keyframe
    Not re-encoded: Keyframe ---> Keyframe
    Re-encoded: Keyframe ---> OUT point

    Yes, it's possible. It can sometimes be difficult to get the encoding similar enough to join. And open GOPs might be an issue. There are smart editors that can do it automatically. Like the aforementioned VideoRedo and SolveigMM.
