  1. Hi friends! I'm not an expert on terminology so be easy on me!
I'm trying to export a 8-12 minute video from Avid (I think it's Media composer) So I can upload it to YouTube and eventually embed it into a website.
I what the highest resolution, obviously.
When I do AVI, at different levels I run out of space. When I do mxf OP-1a somehow I end up with no audio.
The video is all different formats, some are MXF some are MP4 some are recorded directly from a server.
I Think the compression was set to Microsoft, but there are other options.

Please help! Thank you so much!

YouTube prefers to ingest AVC/h.264 in an MP4 container. So export a reference file and then run it through something like Handbrake at high quality.

  3. You can export directly to h.264 in a .mov wrapper, but because it uses the Quicktime engine it is painfully slow.

  4. SMRXP: Thank you I'm going to try MOV. it normally text 30 min so I'm scared. Hoping there was another way. That screen shot is VERY HELPFUL!

JVRaines: So would I export a file as an mpeg? Then download Handbrake on my computer and import it in there? I've never heard of handbrake before.

    thank you for your help!

HandBrake is a video encoding app that uses the x264 library to make high quality compressed files. I would try exporting a QuickTime Reference movie from Media Composer (which should be quick and use much less disk space) and then loading it into HandBrake to make an MP4 file with your desired quality settings.

The "Microsoft 1" codec is good for basically nothing these days.
Tell us what codecs you have installed (listed in export dropdown).

Reference QT movie isn't a bad idea, but doesn't normally work with VFW or Directshow apps in Windows.
Would need to add a shim, like LAVfilters, QTdshow source filter, etc.
