I have several cartoons from the 30-50's and they are in color, I would like to convert them from color to black mkv files. How can I do this? Also bring them up to date by making them into surround sound ? John

    a) In AviSynth: GreyScale

    b) There are "upmix" workflows. But they are all nonsense to me. At least to me.

Mono sound is mono sound is mono sound is mono sound. (Sorry Gertrude Stein) ie you can't 'convert' a mono signal into surround sound. You could relay the entire sound track using parts of the original sound as the main central source but then you would have to get new sounds for the hard left and right and rear etc. It's called Sound design! Nothing automatic to do it for you, just a hard slog I'm afraid....
