Dear All,
I am a conversion newbie who is not able to properly convert a .avi file to
vcd in order to play back in a recently purchased DVD player.
I purchased a DVD player that is supposed to playback MP3s, DVD, VCD, CD-R, & CD-RW. After hours of trying to play back a movie that I downloaded from the Web, I was told that I my need to get a conversion program to convert formats like .avi.
I downloaded TMPGEnc which is supposed to convert tis type of file. After carefully following its instuctions I get sound but no picture during playback on the computer & DVD player
What am I doing wrong? Please help.
Thank You

Look to the left of this page. There is a list of 'HowTo' sections, one of them is titled 'convert'. Click on this link and read any/all appropriate guides thoroughly, follwing their advice step by step. Most of them require the use of only freeware tools. Once you have done this, if you are still having problems, come back to the forum and ask your questions, providing as much info about the source material, stapes taken so far and problems encountered. Only then are you likley to get an answer to your problems.

Try a program like Videostudio 6. You can download a fully functional trial at Ulead.com. It captures, edits and burns DVD, VCD and SVCD.

can you watch the avi on your computer? you might just need some codecs. and make sure you click load and choose a templete if your new to making vcds. choose a templete like vcdntsc or if you have the lastest version of Tmpg just use the wizard. Oh yea, you might want to download a codec pack, such as "nimo pack" and just install the recommended codecs. And make sure you got the divx codec. If it still fails, then i think the avi you have is curropted. Becaused it happens sometimes. What you need to do is open the avi with a program called virtualdub. Goto file information, check the compression (i.e. Divx mpeg 4 low motion) and goto "video " then compression, then choose that codec. after you choosed a codec goto audio, and set it to "full processing mode". then goto auidio and compression, put it on pcm (uncompressed). and you can goto audio conversion also, put it on 44100. Now just goto file and save avi, and try the new avi you saved in tmpg

The problem your having is a TMPGeng problem, you have to go to Option -> Environment Setting -> VFAPI plug-in
Once there, Right click on the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and keep pressing Higher Priority until it is at 2.
The problem should now be solved :)Have Burner will Travel
