  1. Hi, I am a total newbie on this forum, but registered as i have a question i hope someone may help me with.

Is there a way to "rotate" a .MOV video file without losing/encoding the video again (for metadata reasons).

I have two video's i took with my iPhone 6s overseas. Sadly, when i looked at this video on my computer after import, the rotation did not change when i held the camera in a landscape way, and the footage is recorded in portrait. I opened the .MOV file with Quicktime and sure enough i am able to rotate the video, after it re-exports to a new file. The problem with this is, the old metadata does not transfer to the new outputted file (Date created/GPS data and most important Camera Make and Camera model. The reason i need this is because i store my iPhone videos in the Mac "Photos" app and i have filters setup based on "camera model" and with that data missing, the filter does not look at that file and place it in the right spot. I have figured out how to adjust the Camera Make and Model on Images using GraphicConverter 9 without the Modification/creation date changing, however i can't find anything that is able to modify the exif/or metadata of a MOV.
Sorry for the long winded story, but I am hoping someone might give me some advice? - yes its an OCD issue too btw.

Are you using QT7pro or QTX? Are you doing an EXPORT or a SAVE/SAVEAS? I would expect that with 7pro and SAVEAS, it ought to retain everything. You could confirm by looking at the MediaInfo output.
See previous posts regarding phonecam vid rotation and QT.

Thanks for your reply Scott, i have the standard Quicktime Player that comes with OS X El Capitan which gives me the ability to ether save or export. Initially i only tried the SAVE function would stripped the data off the file. I tried to EXPORT and it did the same thing. Interestingly enough, i had the Inspector panel visible and the data is lost as soon as the video is rotated prior to saving or exporting. I had a look at Quicktime X or Pro 7 but it looks like its a very old software that came out a long time ago and not even available on the App store so not really sure if it will be worth spending the $50 to risk it not doing the job. I had a look at the instructions that apple provide and the documentation is that old that it only refers to basic editing or basic movie playing features and nothing to the level i need! Thanks for the link and also the previous posts reference i will dig a bit deeper. Very frustrating ! and now, i only really want to achieve this because its a challenge.

The standard qt player is QTX. Download QT7 pro (both can be installed), and then pay the $30 (not 50, unless they very recently changed it) to make it pro.
Old or not, it still works and has features the newer version doesn't. DL from Apple.com/Quicktime not the app store, IIRC.

Btw, I have El Capitan also with both installed.
