    Hi.

Im trying to get my head around HDMI output and hope someone can help me better understand.

I have a svhs player with tbc and a HDMI capture device. The capture device can record at 576i and all the way up to 108p. Im missing the piece of equipment in the middle that converts the signal from analogue to HDMI. I understand i need a DVD recorder with HDMI output, but what controls the frame size of the HDMI signal....the DVD recorder or the capture device?

Im currently looking around online for 2nd hand Panasonic machines to buy, but am becoming frustrated at their not being any cheap ones. (only brand new ones currently)

Is there anything else that you can suggest that can confidently convert a signal and keep it 576i?

    Thanks very much your help.

Both. They both need to support any given resolution that you want to capture.

At first they will auto-negotiate to the highest-supported resolution. You'll need to set 576i by yourself from the DVD recorder menu. I think every HDMI output device I've ever used allows manually selecting from its own available resolutions.

Panasonic's PAL DVD recorders definitely allow 576i HDMI output.

    Don't upscale on recording.
It's going to be inferior to native encoding, and letting a player upscale.
