  1. Newbie, well thats what I am and here is my problem;

    When I create a DVD type movie.mpg file with Ulead dvd movie factory and I burn it using same program or Nero as a DVD on a CDR (should then be a mini DVD), my player (a Yukai 560 which is supposedly same as Mustek 560) tells me NO DISK.
    If I use the same movie.mpg file and burn it as a SVCD using Nero, my player plays it in the quality I want to obtain, but time reporting is out and there are some minor glitches every now and then in picture only. I really prefer not to have to burn it in a roundabout way and wonder if I can get my DVD file burned on a CDR so that player plays it without having to be "fooled" into thinking it is a SVCD.

    Anybody any suggestions?

  2. Things to check:

    1) Your DVD player may not have the capability of playing MiniDVD. You say that it's the same as the Mustek 560, but the other Yukai players listed at this site do not have MiniDVD capability.

    2) Have you tried another brand of CD-R? Some CD-Rs play poorly in my player.

    3) Your bitrate for your SVCD may be too high. Try using TmpgEnc to encode in MPEG2 at a lower bitrate.

    4) Does the MiniDVD you burn play on your computer as a DVD? When you insert it into your CD or DVD drive, your DVD player software should recognize it as a DVD. If not, maybe it is not burned in the correct format.

  3. Hi Virgo,
    I also have a Yukai 560 but the behaviour is slightly different.
    1) Burning an MPEG1 file as SVCD: it works
    2) Burning an MPEG2 file as SVCD: it doesn't work !
    3) Burning it as a DVD (miniDVD): the player starts as FOLDER mode and you can choose the VOB file and run it. You then need to change the audio channel to "C0" (no menus are available)
    4) Burn it as a raw MPEG1/2 file: it works perfectly !!! I think this one of the few DVD players being able to read MPG files in folder mode (like with MP3 files)

    It's important to know that under the same brand and model you may have WindBond or ESS VideoDrive chipsets and they have different functionalies. I have ESS with firmware v2.01.
    Still looking for a trick to upgrade or play miniVCDs :-? ...
