  1. I've bought a panasonic-E50 (euro model pal/ntsc) and read the manual real quick. I can't seem to find the DNR (noise reduction) option in the menu (page 52 of the manual) or is it maybe input specific (??), i've connected my VCR in the back (AV4) with an s-video cable.
Also what about playing retail ntsc dvd's on this machine ( i've got a bunch of them!) i remember back in 2001 (my first standard dvd player) i used to enter a code or to unlock the region, is it the same here ?
If someone here is familar with the panasonic dvd recorders please join in.

Although I'm not 100% sure the menu structure of the E50 is the same, it usually works this way:

When nothing is on the screen press the DISPLAY button on the remote. Scroll down to "Video" and there you go.

    Screenshot is from my DMR-EH575.

The first setting is the comb filter for Composite input and the second one is the noise reduction.

  3. Well i still haven't found this option. The good news is the tbc seem to work well it reduce waviness, the vertical lines are straighter now which is why i bought this dvd recorder

  4. I don't think e50 has dnr on input, dnr of e series is not much good as in es series. All of the pannys i tried (e60, e100, es10,es15) have some sort of frame synchronizes/ tbc and work very well

As Skiller said, normally under the Display menu after switching to the appropriate input. It isn't found under the Setup menu with everything else, where you would expect it to be.

But as said above, your model doesn't appear to have this option. The DNR you see in the manual is for DVD playback, not video input.

    P.S. Camcorder forum??

  6. Right i've found the dnr option it's for dvd playback only (kinda odd)

I did comparisons with old caps captured with my capture card directly, this dvd recorder don't have a dnr by default (which is cool actually); for the tbc in action you can see it here
(tbc'd image is sharper because of sharpening applied later)
