  1. I am trying to use Virtualdub to edit a video file, crop a section and make it smaller so I could convert it to GIF but Virtualdub can't open it because DV50 was not found. I installed fresh DIVX from the official site and the video plays fine in their player and in MPC so it seems like DV50 is somehow working but yet I can't open it in Virtualdub.

    Any idea?

    DV50 or DX50 ? DV50 is related to DV (50Mb 422 variant) , DX50 is related to DivX

Eitherway, you'd need a VFW (video for windows) version, since MPC is a directshow player (directshow is a different system which vdub doesn't use directly), and to match the x86 vs. x64 . Most people use x86 vdub (even on x64 OS), so you'd need x86 version of the decoder

For DV50 you could install cedocida , for DX50 you could install ffdshow and enable DX50 in the VFW configuration

  3. Solid advice from pdr. You are conflating two different codecs when you say DV50 and DIVX. Also, try installing MediaInfo or GSpot (for DV AVI) and using one or both to be certain what codec your video is and whether or not you are missing the required decoder on your system.

  4. It is DV50 and for some reason I thought it was DIVX but it wasn't, no wonder I couldn't get it to work with DIVX download. Thanks PDR for the suggestion, I was able to make it work.
