A TV station captured a video of my son as part of a human interest story (he has cancer). I have a link for that video on the TV station. I can view it through IE. However, I would lie to capture the video for myself and keep it in a file. What application or download site might allow this to happen? Thanks.

This question is more about 'Video Streaming' than capture.
If you go to that section of the forum there are many threads that discuss the software that may be able to assist. I say 'may' because sometimes the video stream is protected and is harder to download.
But........
I would have thought that the tv station can, in this situation, give you a proper copy of the program on dvd etc.. Try asking them. -

Not free, but another thing you can also try is "Video Download Capture". I'm not sure if there's a trial, but there's a 30 day guarantee. It worked very well for even some obscure documentaries in Canadian content on my end.
It "hijacks" an image of your browser and pulls out content, even commercials.
Welcome to the Forums. My blessings with your son.I hate VHS. I always did. -
Thank you Puzzler. He's only 34. We're hoping for a recovery after surgery. I try not to cry.

I hope I did not come over un-sympathetic. I lost a sister to cancer so I know how you feel.
Many of us, myself included, use commercial (paid for) software to download video streams even if they can often be done with the free stuff.
If you can post a link to that footage here I am sure that the moderators would not object to us grabbing it for you. I would still ask the tv company for a permanent record tho -
Oh no DB83! I didn't mean to imply that at all. You know how it is when someone you don't know finds out you have a tragedy in your life. We all automatically say "I'm sorry". Lately, I have run into people - complete strangers - who say that and then follow up several days later to see how things are going. I've been nothing short of amazed by this. Puzzler made a comment and it hit me just right. I felt compelled to respond. I just learned something new about people - and felt compelled to acknowledge what they say. I channel all those positive feelings I receive towards my son. Another life lesson. Too bad they come so late in life!
I have contacted the station and have heard nothing back from them. That's why I posted. I've kept this link to the site for years - don't know why. Anyway this is the link.

I'm more than willing to pay someone or buy a piece of software. I'm talking to some folks who developed "Video Download Capture" (Puzzler mentioned them) to see what they say.
But thank you for your thoughts. Now I have two more people's good wishes to pass forward. -
Unfortunately it is a protected stream. Can not be directly downloaded.
But you are in the right place. Chances are that someone with the knowledge can identify the real url to the video and proceed from there.
Failing that, it is possible to do a capture direct from the PC screen. -
You can use livestreamer to download the video:
Code:livestreamer "hds://32730.cdx.c.ooyala.com/wzanR0MDE60d5ZNtqAD8M9G6Jz0mwRH9/wzanR0MDE60d5ZNtqAD8M9G6Jz0mwRH9_1.f4m" best -o output.flv

Try Internet Download Manager. When I used the link provided in post #7 I was able to get the video. Maximum resolution available was 640x360.

Well this was an amazing thread. I ended up with a video of my son and three new programs to look at. I can't thank all of you enough for your help. My wife keeps trying to get me to use FB because you meet all sorts of people. I keep telling her to join some of the tech sites I belong to because you meet a superior caste of people. Thank you all again for your assistance.
